Loss of Eyesight due to Glaucoma
Female age approx 60 years, about 4 years ago chronic glaucoma in left eye and to a lesser degree in the right eye resulted in a Trabeculectomy of both eyes.
The increased internal pressure in the left eye did not change after surgery and a course of steriod eye ointments was administered to both eyes. This resulted in the eyelids of both eyes to become chronically inflammed and hypersensitive to all medications.
Upon the first visit of patient she was housebound unable to go outside due to swollen eyelids and almost no lubrication to the external parts of both eyes. The eyes were extremely dry and sensitive with a constant burning sensation.
Visual Field Test
Individauls with chronic degenerative eye conditions such as glaucoma periodically undergo medical checks to assess and monitor the condition. An visual field test is usually performed twice yearly to assess the quality and range of vision.
